Sambo is a Russian martial art and combat sport. The word "SAMBO" is an acronym for SAMooborona Bez Oruzhiya, which literally translates as "self-defense without weapons". In Russia "SAMBO" is often referred to as the weapon that no one can see, but which is always with you. Intended to be a merger of the most effective techniques of other martial arts almost about 100 years ago, SAMBO was the equivalent of today's MMA.
Created in secret, developed under the curtain of the Red Army and KGB, SAMBO was tested and proven at the battelfields of the Second World War. Since then, it has grown to serve not only military, police and secret services, but also each and everyone who devotes time and effort to learn it.

In the cage, MMA fighters as Fedor Emilienenko, Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz as well as many others are using SAMBO successfully as part of their arsenal, continuing to develop and improve the SAMBO system for the needs and challenges of today's world.
